When you come across carrots that have bumps and hair on it, this means that you could be adding too much fertilizer.
Another reason is you can over water them (cracks or splits ) Sometimes if you water them too little, they can develop small feeder roots that shoot from the main root in search of water. (the hairs ) - Mod Lizzie

[email protected] Thanks ! - Mod Lizzie (and Lo :) ) How can I Prevent This ?You can prevent this carrot illness by following these simple tips -
1) Plant your carrots in the recommended season 2) Carrots require around 6-8 hours of sunlight each day to grow (the leaves on top need to photosynthesise and create 'food' for the carrot to be able to grow ) 3) Water your plants in cooler parts of the day 4) Check your soil is healthy and in the right condition to grow your carrots If you find one of your carrots has 'Black Rot', dispose of it. It is harmful to consume and definitely NOT recommended to try. If your carrot is just a little mouldy, the CSIRO has said that carrots are safe to eat if you cut mould off. (But still, BE CAREFUL. Trust your judgement to whether or not you want to eat it ) -Mod Lizzie |
